Time For New Trails

On our 60th day of hiking, we got to practice one of the things the trail has been teaching us....flexibility, flexibility, flexibility.

Found a grove of blueberry bushes too!!

Yes, Fungus Among Us III

Buck's right, I have been fascinated by the fungus + we've seen on this trip.  In Hot Springs, we met a couple great people, Katherine & Joshua, who tried to educate us as to which mushrooms we can eat.

I went to Erwin's library to try to educate myself a bit more about mushrooms.  Hmmm, lots to learn.  At this time, we're still just taking photos.

More Trail Views

With so much natural beauty around, you can't help but mellow.

Fall-like Colors

As always, forgive the photographer errors, but wanted to share a few fall glimpses we've had along the trail.

Highest Shelter on the Appalachian Trail --Roan High Knob Shelter

Here are some more pics and a video from Roan Mountain.

Some of My Favorite Views

These are some of my favorite views on the trip - Buck tucked in, sleeping.  He sleeps like this whenever we're in a shelter (for a bug shield), or if it cold outside.

Remember the old hair curler covers? Doesn't it look like he has a curler cover on his head?

Camping on Roan Mountain

This was our coldest and most 'dewy' night thusfar. Also included one of the most beautiful sunsets. Really enjoyed the hot mocha the next morning.

Longest Hiking Day Yet

Yep, the slow hikers walloped our old hiking distance records on this day - 17 miles of hiking with some considerable climb and just a spec of rain.  So many varied surroundings.   It was fun to read about the hotel that used to be at the top of Roan Mountain, but I was also pretty excited just to see a very clean working bathroom.
