We can attest to the low pace of the timber rattlesnake. It wasn't concerned about our presence at all.

Backpacking Over Beauty Spot and Unaka Mountain
This area included some steep but gradual climbs. Gnats love the meadows and nearby areas but even then its not bad if you're moving. Also on Unaka Mountain, we caught a good-sized timber rattlesnake on video - separate video.
Breakfast on the Appalachian Trail
A fellow hiker gave us some instant coffee when he left the trail. It inspired Buck to make us mochas in the morning - instant coffee and hot chocolate mix. I had my doubts but it really works. This is Buck's first task every morning.
Erwin, Tennessee: Appalachian Trail Town
The downtown area retains alittle Main Street USA feel and alittle history e.g. the purple glass that decorates some cellar doors outside the main street shops.
Medium Dry on Big Bald
Windy, misty and beautiful. The peacefulness was so nice - Buck was miffed when some day walkers came by from another trail.

The few days captured by these pics & videos prove again....never judge any hiking day by its beginning. The weather, your mood, what you see - it can all change so quickly.
