Thought this was a female turtle because it dug a pretty deep hole with its back right leg and did not retreat when we approached. But the subsequent guidebooks said the red eyes mean its a male. That means my theory of 'her' laying eggs is out of the question.
Its hard to see but there are a couple finned critters (one in the lighter area) in the second pic taken in one of the many streams.
