About 18 miles into our trip, we experienced our first bit of the famous Trail Magic. The hot weather has dried up some of the streams, causing us to be extra cautious with our water. We were down to about 8 ounces when we came up to another dry stream. We were looking at traveling 5 miles on that and a few electrolyte replacement 'candies'.
Instead, at the bottom of Horse Gap, a local avid hiker (Survivor Dave) had heard of the water shortage and placed jugs of water for hikers to have. That's one of the more blatant examples of trail magic (thoughtfulness) that we've experienced in just 8 days of hiking.
