The outfitter here is SO well informed and gracious. This tree of used and abused shoes started about four years ago. We ended up staying in Neel Gap while we made peace with our camera phone (eating microwaved burritos all day). Yes you heard right - we held up our trek thru nature to be a slave to technology.
Al and I admit it was all for the best. The outfitter staff never sneered or snickered -I'm sure they've seen worse. Pirate makes any stay at the Walasi-Yi hostel worthwhile. He cooks you dinner (chicken that fell off rhe bone) and breakfast, is very easy to be around and has GREAT perspective. He's been around 22 years, helps wirh local rescues, festivals (including annual trail days) and is an avid hiker. The best thing is he's a great storyteller.
Seeing how this setback turned out to be such a delight helps me remember that flexibility is key on this trip.....I take back a few of the expletives I expressed while wrestling with the @#%& new smartphone and related apps.
